How to put house in joint name

Hello, My husband and I recently paid off our mortgage which was in my husband's name only. How would we go about adding my name to the house to ensure if something happed to one of us that the house would automatically go to the other spouse. I thought it happened automatically if you were married but I'm not 100% convinced. My husband has emailed several places but never gets a reply. Thank you so much for your help.

Get a Will.

Go see a solicitor who can either put the house in both names or get you both wills drawn up as the previous poster says.1

The house will go to the next of kin automatically unless the will states overwise (assuming your married), Your husband can gift a 50% share to you if you wish (or the whole lot) and any other assets there is no capital gains between spouses.
You will need to get the title dead changed, not difficult but a job Id rather put in the hands of a solicitor as its not going to be fortunes.
However its prudent for both of you to have wills, and done properly, and updated periodically.

If no mortgage, easy to transfer the property into joint names using Land Registry forms:* TR1* AP1* ID1But a will each is a good idea as well. Some charities will pay the solicitor to draw up your will(s) free, but they hope/expect that you'll leave them a legacy........eg:

In terms of getting a will, what happens if Husband needs care in the future, does marriage offer protection?1

Protection in what way?Marvel1 said:In terms of getting a will, what happens if Husband needs care in the future, does marriage offer protection?
You may wish to set up a power of attorney now, for you both. But if you mean will you have to sell your house to pay for care if a spouse is still living there then no...… As I said between married spouses title deeds will make no difference, as far as I'm aware.
