  • Yes that looks like the stuff. Except mine is full of holes, and in the worst affected window, where the plaster had given way, you can see it stops around 10mm short of the window frame...

I used to work for a builder who got us to put these in. Really designed for timber framed houses, but can be fixed to blockwork.

  • I paid ~£1700 for three lintels and cavity trays over 2400, 2200 and 1100mm spans last year, in the north west. I would imagine NW and NE prices to be comparable.

If you are in the North East, you might find a couple of Likely Lads down the pub to give you a better price.

Anyways, seems I’m looking at anything between £300-£2k, plus replacement windows while I’m at it. Time to make some phone calls on Monday!

    Thanks again!
When we had new windows I mentioned that one needed reinforcing for the same reason you are talking about. They said that was fine, they'd do it if it needed it, no extra charge.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Thanks for that, roughly the same sizes I’m looking at off the top of my head too.

Our house in the North West (Wirral) had two concrete lintels installed in the rear two windows. It cost £950. The majority of the cost was for the scaffolding.

Thanks for the reply. Have had my first quote in at £1,250. Have got another couple lined up this week. Will keep the thread updated for the benefit of anybody searching in future.

    Cheers
