Virgin Media will only apply credit to account and not refund

We started with virgin media over 6 months ago on a £39 per month 12 month deal. However they charged us £59 instead, after our complaints being ignored it was escalated through CEDR where they finally replied after ignoring the issue for 4 months setting our payments back down to £39 and saying they would refund the £120 over charged. Its been over a month and I hadn't seen the money so called them. They hadn't done anything in the way of paying it back so on the phone said they will credit the account by £120 so we won't be charged again till we burn through that amount.
The thing is I don't want the account credited I want a refund as they said they would give. They insisted they can't give a refund and can only credit the account. My understanding is they have over charged me so must refund via the same means I paid them, so pay the money back (my understanding could be wrong though). I guess it all works out in the end but would much rather have the £120, is there not anything I can do?

They should refund you now rather than having your money on a free loan basis, yes.
I guess it depends how much effort you want to put into something that puts you back in your original position in a little over three months. Personally I couldn't be bothered with the hassle but appreciate you may feel differently.1 -

I think unfortunately you'll have to balance your time value vs the benefits - if as you say they won't refund you, you're stuck with their offer unless you contest again.
Very annoying, but I think I'd just fold and take the credit for the hassle.1 -
How are the monthly payments made? Direct debit? What about the DD guarantee?0
