I've currently got savings of around £14k and most of my 5% savers are running out and I'm very underwhelmed by the current saving rates. So I'm leaning to starting some investments in funds and/or stocks.
Bit of info
Age 27
Mortgage at 1.79%
Pension contributions increased to 6% (no extra contribution from work)
Aim - long term (10yrs plus) savings growth
I dont want to invest any more in pension as if anything changes in my personal circumstances then I cant access any of the funds. I dont plan to need to access, but with a baby due you never know what's around the corner.
Can anyone recommend a good fund?
I'll probably be looking to invest £3-5k of my savings, and put the rest in regular and fixed savers.

You might consider a stocks and shares ISA, contribute a lump sum to start and then regular contributions thereafter.

Similar situation to yourself but 33.
I have £8.5k in Premium Bonds, and £5k direct with Vanguard invested in VLS100 fund, primarily due to the low fees and that it seems to be the default choice when starting out. Are you a lower or higher rate tax payer? If the latter, many on here would urge with pension contributions, but I understand the desire to keep the money available for pre-retirement...
Congrats on impending arrival - Vanguard also offer an S&S JISA product...0
