car tax double whammy

My car was not taxed for a period last year. We moved house and reminders were going to old address. V62 transfer did not go through, yes I sent off form. She was clamped and I had to fork out for a fine and penalty etc from DVLA in July 2019. But now I've been forwarded claim forms (sent to old address saying that car was sighted without tax) and subsequent court forms (which I knew nothing about!) from same period (July 2019). Do I have any way of getting off this double whammy? Seems v harsh to fine me twice in same period. Thoughts? thanks !

It's not a double-whammy.
What you paid first-time round was the fees for your car being clamped, plus the surety fee.
What you're being told to pay now is the penalty for having the car on the road without tax.
Didn't you read the INF32 leaflet you got when it was clamped?
