We have been very happy with British Gas for the last 10 months and have just switched via the MSE energy club to another even cheaper BG deal with £25 cash back and 12 months home emergency cover.
We don't spend a lot on energy as it is, with our previous tarriff we were paying £50 per month dual fuel and were overpaying at that and building up a large credit. This new deal will see us spending even less and has saved us almost 1p kwh for gas as well as a few p per day standing charge for the gas.
I'm not sure we are paying A LOT MORE than any other supplier in our area.
Would you care to share just exactly what you are paying, then I could probably confirm whether your paying A LOT MORE! or is it a secret lol
We are currently paying £50 per month which includes gas and electricity but this will be dropped at our next direct debit review in May as we have not used up all of our built up credit over this winter.

We look to be on track to use 7000kwh gas and 2000kwh electric.

Dont have the tariff details to hand but it is the MSE energy club recommended price fixed until Feb 2021 with £25 cashback and free home emergency cover.

Not sure why this would be a big secret!

Why can't they all be wrong?
Some might be on the online exclusive tariff, but even that is a couple of pounds a month more expensive for me. Eon and scottish power are cheaper & aren't likely to go bankrupt anytime soon. I switch all the time, all the energy providers have terrible customer service.
The people who never switch are just scared of dealing with that terrible customer service.
I agree, I've never seen any of the 'Big six' beat the smaller companies tariffs in the long run.
The big six dont tend to go bust on a regular basis though!

That doesn't really tell me (or anybody else) anything. What are your unit rates/standing charges, those are the most important.
The secret bit was a bit of humour, the lol at the end was the clue!

But were all protected if they did go bust so not really a concern is it

    Tariff details:
Gas: 2.336p per kWh Standing Charge 14.829p per day
Electric: 13.796p per kWh Standing Charge 16.852p per day

Given the amount of people who have problems on here when their supplier goes bust and they are switched to a new supplier, I and many more like me prefer to use a supplier with a proven track record!

And who ended up protecting the supplies of Breeze Energy customers, when Breeze Energy went belly up?
Oh yes, that would be British Gas!

The problem is that in many cases, when another supplier has to come to the rescue of customers of a failed supplier, the rescuing supplier more often than not puts those customers on the supplier's expensive standard default tariff.

Whilst you are free to transfer to another tariff or even switch supplier, it is often blocked until the switch to the rescuing supplier has completed and that seems to typically be at least 2 months, with a switch to another supplier taking another 3 weeks therafter.
So that can be almost a quarter of a year if not longer on a supplier's most expensive standard varible tariff. Depending on the time of year, that could end up being very expensive indeed!

That tariff looks pretty good I must admit although for my area BG aint quoting me anywhere near those figures Gas being around 3.7!!!!! for a start. Avro are as follows:

Gas: 2.431 per kWh Standing Charge 14.70 per day
Electric: 13.020 per kWh Standing Charge 14.70 per day
So slightly more expensive on gas than BG but a big enough saving on Electric + Standing charges to keep me happy.

The deal is available through MSE Energy Club and has a £25 cash back after 3 months and 12 months free home emergency cover.

All things considering it is a pretty good deal from a bigger supplier.
