Dr_Crypto said:I may be wrong here but I understood an EHIC entitled you to the same level of treatment as a local. Therefore if a French person would have had to pay and then reclaim this money than a Brit would have to pay and then reclaim from travel insurance. That said it’s not an area im

There seems to be no mention of whether the holiday insurers were contacted to advise them of a possible claimable incident at the time, which is what should have happened, and if so then the OP would have the correspondence to remind them of who the insurers were. Also, they may now baulk at a claim being made so long after the event, and there may even be something in the T&Cs about timely notification, so I doubt it will be a smooth procedure in this event.Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.0

In simple terms the OP has two options - 1 Find out who they were insured with and then pass the paperwork onto them to process the claim or 2 Suck it up and pay!0

You could look back at your credit card or bank statements to find who your insurer was? If you don't have these, the bank may be able to send your copies.
It's possible to see what an EHIC covers at https://ec.europa.eu/social/main.jsp?catId=1021&langId=en&intPageId=1737.0 -
