Tariffs for Electric Vehicles (EV)

I have 2 issues
1. The MSE energy club does not seem to support the selection of EV tariffs in its filters (I hope this will change soon)
2. I have a type 1 smart meter that most companies can't read. I cannot get a good EV tariff without a smart meter. Companies will not change a working type 1 to type 2 OR if they will they cant tell me by when (so I would need to switch to a standard tariff and wait (months/years?) for my meter to be upgraded. A bit of a conundrum!!!

Have you tried looking at Octopus Agile?0

What are the specifics with EV tariffs? How many kWh does it take to charge your EV? Might be worth looking into an economy 7 tariff if it takes around 6-7hours and uses a lot of juice.Edit: Oh i see they are cheaper rates than E7.What's to stop anyone without an EV using one of these in place of E7?0

E7=7x7=49 hours per week.
E7x3 3kW heating elements = 21kWh
Be careful :
EDF for example give 49 hours pw.
SP only give 35 hours pw.
Octopus only a measly 21pw.
So be very careful, huge range of both price per kWh and and huge range of cheap hours per night/week for charging both heating and hot water needs. Take care folks.

Yep, be careful of your own usage patterns. In RftB's example 21 hours from Octopus should be good for over 500 miles a week with a 7kW charger.I'm going on to Agile which is variable and even goes negative on occasion (they pay you!), but for that to work you need to avoid the peak hours of 16.00 to 19.00/19.30. Even during the day it can go down to, today for example 7 or 8p, and then overnight down to 6p ish. Between 01.30 - 03.00 it'll be 3.53p and between 03.30 -04.00 it will be 1.96p.I have solar panels which also affects my imported amount and as a result I'm experienced enough to understand my own usage. Not everybody on this particular board is!1

MSE Energy Club comparison is invalid as the tariffs listed do not include EV tariffs, eg EDF's GO Electric Jan21.
Please update this useful tool.
Thanks

Talldave said:So are there any T&Cs regarding zero consumption outside 01:30-04:00? If not, then you could fast charge batteries during that time to cover the whole day's consumption. In fact, using the car for that very purpose is part of what smarter grids are all about .No rules about zero consumption.The Agile tariff tracks the wholesale electricity prices and is very much targeted at those who have facilities like a powerwall to allow them to load shift and in combination with solar reduce their grid input to zero for much of the day.It also works very well for those with little use during the 4-7pm peak period, even without solar and battery packs...
