And for a show, a lot of them do matinee perfomances in the afternoon, the tickets being very cheap.

try whatsonstage.com for tickets and although its not near trafalger sqaure the k and k hotel kensington is excellent value for money. The best work is the cheapest as the quality remains long after the price is forgotten0

I ditto https://www.londontwon.com I got the Thistle Trafalger Sq for £48 per night including VAT via londontown. Your have to touch lucky.
londontown are advertising the 5* Chesterfield in Mayfair with really good rates.
The 5* hotels in July and August do not get the business you think as their clientel is away on holiday so keep your eye on londontown.com for a good bargain.
Experience has got me to know getting a room for less than £50 in central London is to touch on a real bargain. £75 often available but £99 is more the norm' you can aim for.
try Best Western Hotel, Bryanston St, Mayfair. Also known as the Mostyn this hotel offers good deals for around £76 per room and it is good. stayed there and recommend it.
https://www.rathbonehotel.co.uk if you want a good small luxury hotel stayed here as well and can recommend it. When I stayed they were converting all the baths to jaccuzi baths from normal baths.0
