Best Way to Insure a Replacement Car When I've Still Got the Current One.

Hi
I'm looking to replace my car. I'll be using it for travelling to and from checking out the replacement candidates.
When I acquire the replacement, I guess I'll need to keep the old one insured till I sell it. A few weeks, probably.
What's the cheapest/easiest way of handling the transition ?
4 years ago, I bought a car 30 miles away from home. It was a project car, rather than a replacement for the daily.
On that occasion, I paid £40, I think it was, for a 1 day temporary insurance policy, to get the car home. Immediatelly SORN'ed
it when I got home.
The £40 then seemed a lot, so just wondered if there is a more effective way of having 2 cars insured for a few weeks.
