Recalls and Rights

Can anyone advise me on this issue please. I have a car, bought new on 17th October 2015 from a 'very reputable' company. This car has now been recalled 3 times in 4 years. I have been happy to have the repairs done each time and continue on with my car, however it has now come to light that there is another fault in the car that has a direct link to one of the recalls but the company are refusing to fix this issue. In terms of reasonable length of time this should be a part that lasts for the lifetime of the car, not 4 years, but also given it is linked to a specific part that has been recalled is it reasonable for me to ask for this to be fixed free of charge or at a reduced rate? The company are asking for more than my monthly salary to fix the issue and I genuinely do not feel that a 4 year  old car that has been recalled each year but has been well maintained and not used to excess in the slightest (doing approx 10000 miles p.a) should have the faults it does. Can I expect the company to meet me somewhere in terms of costs for repairs?

TIA

If it's a recall why aren't the manufacturer covering the cost? Or are you saying the fault wasn't specifically part of a previous recall but is related to the same "system" that was covered by a previous recall?
  • Basically the recalls have been for the fuel line, the engine manifold system and the brake fluid lines. Since the brake fluid lines have been done the slave cylinder has been leaking. The brake fluid leaking from this has now damaged the clutch and the flywheel so all 3 elements need replaced. The brake fluid recall wasn't done through our normal retailer as they were undergoing renovations but was completed by a garage that they organised/another franchise so still a manufacturer repair.

How did the leaking slave cylinder which is an external part damage the clutch and flywheel which are internal components?
This new layout is crap. I tried editing my post above and it's reposted as a new comment!
  • I did wonder why it had come through twice!

Yes it is crap. I also know that the company have reduced the price of their slave cylinder massively in recent months so I cant be the only person having this issue

Have you had an independent report to show that the previous work is what has caused the new fault/damage?
  • We are in the middle of doing that.

We have offered to pay part of the repair but done feel we are liable for the full cost due to the amount of recalls and the link. Had it been a car that hadnt been recalled I would have just put it down to bad luck but 3 times in 4 years for a new car is poor.

Brake lines replaced may well have nothing to do with a faulty slave cylinder /or seals leaking .
Only an inspection will tell .

Slave or any hydraulic cylinder is not something  that should  last for the life of a car .
