Car insurance fee to add temporary driver

Last year I was with Direct Line but my renewal is almost double the cost. The advantage of DL is that they don't charge fees to make changes, I add my son as a temporary driver when he is home from uni, maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I can get like for like cover for half the DL price on various comparison sites but does anyone know if any other insurers offer no fee (or a reasonable fee) to add/remove temporary drivers please? It may be that I am better off sticking with DL if I have high fees to pay to add/remove my son occasionally. Thank you

Some do and some don't. You will need to check the individual policy details. Even if there is a charge I very much doubt it will equal 50% of DL insurance charge.

Assuming your son is a young and/or inexperienced driver, another thing to check is whether an insurer will allow younger people (i.e. under 21 and/or under 25) to be added as temporary named drivers - some do and some don't.
FWIW, a good indication might be to do 'dummy' quotes on comparison sites adding your son as a permanent named driver - you might see some insurers dropping off the list, because they won't insure young named drivers. That probably suggests that they won't insure them as temporary named drivers either.0 -
Thank you for your reply, I will go through all the polices but I just wondered if anyone knew off hand which (if any) don't charge like DL?TELLIT01 said:Some do and some don't. Thank you, that's a good point to consider0
