Default on credit report

Bit of background firstly. Had current account with TSB for years, switched to Bank of Scotland and whilst the switch was being done sold a dress (wedding) on ebay for which the buyer then opened a dispute via paypal claiming not to have received despite the delivery being tracked! Fast forward to paypal refunding said buyer and deducting it from TSB balance which was £0, leaving the account £148 overdrawn once charges were added.
Now it's 4 years on, default is due to drop off the credit file in may 2022. Have only ever had one letter regarding the default, account was closed shortly after and now I'm in a position where I can afford to pay it off although at the moment I don't know how to!
Question is if I pay it off will it immediately drop off the credit file or will it stay on it until the 6 years is up?
I'm trying to rebuild my credit file after a bleak history which I've been sorting out over the last few years and this is the last default left on there so I want it gone.
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Default will show as satisfied (when TSB update your file next) but still appear until 6 years from the date of your default.

Hi, I have a Capital One Credit Card, I was 5 payments behind, I then brought the account up to date, but missed the next payment 11th of the month but paid it on 25th, but they have now put my account into default, but I feel this isn't correct, as I was now only One payment behind when they put it into default, yet with 5 payments behind they hadn't.
Do you think this could be a mistake?

Probably not, but you could speak to them about it.

Assuming they've had enough and no longer want to keep your account open, you might be best asking them to backdate the default a few months.

However, they've done it within 6 months of the initial default, so keep your expectations low.

I will call them today and see what can be done, or get clarity, I was just surprised that it happened after 1 payment missed

    Will keep you updated!
