Petplan Renewal - interesting conversation with them

Cat insurance - anyone had experience of Petplan lifetime renewal and getting a discount? Last year put it up by 15%, this year 18%.

Just been told it has no bearing on previous claim (£500) but based on all circumstances. On pushing got told that they will not put up by more than 20%pa, but seemed to be between 15-19.99%.

Oh, and they don't do discounts! If they are going to put up every year by 15-20% I'm thinking I'm better off going somewhere else.

Cat turned 7 on Sunday and only claimed for dental work (feline absorption lesion / FORLs) last year.

Previous cat was with Sainsburys Bank no probs but they have changed their underwriter and not good reviews/as high cover as before. John Lewis doesn't cover dental unless from injury or accident

No, I never even thought to ask for a discount, but I doubt it would work. I'm also frustrated with the level of premium rises, but the animals are getting older, so perhaps this is fair. I'm thinking at some point it will be better to self-insure the eldest.

Having a 9year old and two 13 year old dogs I pay an extortionate amount in insurance every month but it give me peace of mind that there is a limit to how much I need to find when one of them needs treatment. (recently paid out nearly £900 for the youngest who had pancreatitis and two day in emergency clinic)  Having said that if I was to take on a puppy (an unlikely scenario as I am heading for 70 and these will be our last dogs as we have no one to leave them to in the event of our deaths)  I would probably pay into a savings account every month as insurance is getting more and more unaffordable.
