Smart Thermostats..
Options
Simple question really, are they worth it?
The house i bought 2 years ago currently has a Drayton Digistat RF+ wireless thermostat, but it's faulty (confirmed by plumber today) I was looking at replacing it with a wired one just as a cheap easy fix, but I love technology and now I'm interested in Hive/Nest. Searches online say yes, but more from reviewers, I want some actual peoples experiences: are they actually beneficial to your home and energy bills? as they're quite expensive.

I got a new programmable thermostat, it's not smart as in it doesn't connect to the internet, but it keeps my house at a more constant temperature between 20.5 deg C and 21.5 deg C with the thermostat set at 21 deg C whereas with the old thermostat the temperature varied between 19.5 and 22.5 deg C when it was set at 21 deg C.
This is of course after the room the thermostat is in has reached it's set temperature and also my heating is on all day from 07:45 to 23:30.
Also if my wife feels cold and turns the thermostat up, the next morning when it switches the heating on it reverts back to its original setting of 21 deg C.
As to saving gas, I'm still using the same as before so it doesn't save gas.

We have two hive systems and use them for control rather than to save money. I really like them as we have different temperatures set for different times, with a different schedule for the weekends.
If you shop around you can get discounts on the system. Both of ours were installed options, rather than DIY ones. The first one was £99 when we bought a new boiler from BG.0
