What makes it even more sickening is when I think of places like Hull where they demolished/are in the process of demolishing 1000's of council houses because apparently nobody wants them.

Some of the people in the documentary could find somewhere more easily by relocating elsewhere. Not ideal I know but it sorts out a roof over their head.

For example, in the county I live in, East Yorkshire, there's basically no chance to get a council house yet in parts of West and South Yorks, there's plenty.

Yes, I too saw the update, and it was as depressing watching it for the second time as it was the first.

My heart really went out to the children of this documentary. All of them were innocent victims of this event. I have no understanding about council housing, but what I find discriminating, is that illegal immigrants or others fleeing their own country who have no children are put up in flats and in some cases 5 * accomodation until their paperwork is processed. Yet parents are refused basic accomodation to home their children.

I found the lack of compassion for the children and their mental stability heart renching, as the councils answer was to call in Social Services and have them taken from the Parents. Did they assume that the children would be unaware that their parents were sleeping on the street?

I was disappointed to hear that both teenage girls fell out with their parents.
and the younger girls view that you should only ever live in two houses (dispairing) as it clearly showed the perspective of a child. The simplicity of the situation. That the children have no concept that it all has to be paid for.

I like others thought of all the people on this site and dealing with huge amounts of debt, wondering how long would it be before they were evicted and living on the street. Why does this country fall to see that charity begins at home??

Proud to be dealt with my debts!:D
  • I saw the original a few years back and really had my eyes opened by it. didn't catch the update yesterday evening, although the original really sticks in my mind. How devastating and disruptive for kids to go to school not knowing where they would be staying each and every night of the week!
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • ive' been thinking about it all day, i just would like to do something to help. I wonder if the documentary makers went out of their way to help at all? Couldthey have paid the families a fee for appearing in the documentary, after all thay did win awards! The other side of the coin is the "i'm a celeberity competition. "they are paid huge amounts with numerous deals afterwards- everyone cynically knows why they went in there, i wish the cynism could be put to good use and people who really need the cash could have it, after all their self esteem must be lower than someone who needs botox or boob implants- or is it just me thinking that??
Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:
