Anyone else watchin? Homelessness is one of the biggest sins of our so called 'developed' society, IMHO. Good documentary, makes me feel humble in my troubles.

I watched it. I watched the first one a few years ago and was interested to see what happened to the families featured when it first aired. It was depressing then and was depressing tonight. Makes you think doesn't it?

  • I'm sorry I missed it. I used to volunteer at a homeless shelter/soup kitchen and am thinking of doing a couple of days with shelter over this holiday. I can't recommend it highly enough if anyone can afford the time

I too watched this documentary, its an absolute disgrace that this goes on in the year 2007, I can only see it getting worse with consumer debt at all time high.

I wish the government would stop arguing over donations and get down to real policies like tackling homelessness, poverty etc. How much is it going to cost the tax payer to have an inquiry into the so called donation scandal, the money should be spend on tackling real important issues.

I just watched it and i cant believe what those poor families have been through- its a national disgrace. I was really upset for the family which finally found out that the council shouldn't have evicted them, andthat they were now chasing them for money for storage of goods and threatened court action and baillifs, they deserve to be hauled through the courts for what they have put that family through. I wish i was a barrister i would have represented them for free!!

  • Im watching a documentary on BBC 3 at the moment. Its also a homeless one but i think must be different than the one you guys are talking about. This one is called Filthy Rich and Homeless where they have taken 5 wealthy people and dumped them on the streets. First 3 nights were completely on there own on the streets, 2nd 3 nights were paired up with a homeless buddy and last three nights was living in hostels.

Its just been amazing watching their preconceived notions of homelessness and the people involved evaporate. Tonights show is watching how they deal with going back to their own lives.

Only think is its on about 1 in the morning and am absolutely shattered!!!!

I am going out this year with well being packs for homless people during 14 - 21 December in Edinburgh which I cant wait to do. Sometimes its just the little things which makes a difference....

  • I watched it, and had previously watched it when it was on a year or so ago.

It is such a disgrace when you see what the families have to go through - very moving.

Since the original programme, I have discussed it with colleagues who didn't watch it, and in particular a small moment that to me encapsulated the desperation of families living in B&B - when Sarah said she decided what she wanted for tea in the morning & left it on the radiator during the day - so that when she got home it was warm - still makes me cry to think of it. Plus the tin she had was a value tin of beans.

One thing that really made me mad, rather than moved me, was the Notts family that had eventually been declared not intentionally homeless - and that it was a system error that led to their eviction - were still being chased for the money for the council clearing the house. I wanted to scream at the TV. I'm sure if they could afford decent representation, they could get that dropped. They seemed quite calm about it, but I felt so frustrated and it was nothing to do with me.

  • I think I watched 2 minutes of it, the part where the family were staying with a friend and she had to tell them they had to move out and when the dad told his son and he was saying sorry and then the son was crying. My eyes are welling up just thinking about it, I couldn't watch it past that point.

    Hi I caught this too.

I was total outraged by the family evicted because housing benefit didn't pay, then they paid the day they were evicted but no one spoke to anyone else so the eviction wasn't stopped. But they were then told they were inentionally homeless, it really opens your eyes.

I really felt for all the families involved but the long term problems it has created for the two teenage girls is just unthinkable. I was so stunned when the school wouldn't send any work for the 7 year old, you aren't in the county we have no responsibility was the response! speachless. Then the older girl who couldn't have her GCSE course work because she hadn't given notice of being pulled out of school due to homelessness.

It just shouldn't happen in a rich society like ours.

    I saw this programme too.

Makes you realise that there are people far worse off than you, and how lucky we are to have a roof over our heads.

There but for the grace of God go any of us.
