Advice on Canceling a holiday booked by someone else

Hi i hope someone can advise please. My 17 year old Daughter was added onto her Boyfriends Holiday with his family. Her boyfriend ended the relationship yesterday. My daughter has paid £100 so far towards this holiday (as agreed). i have asked the Boyfriends mother for her money back as she will now not be able to go no fault of her own. she has told me she has taken my daughter off the holiday and still has to pay so she won't be giving my daughter any money. The holiday is with TUI and due to go 18/08/2020. Does anyone know if this is correct and if i do have any powers to get this money back or any advice would be appreciated. . ( She paid this from her own wages via bank transfer). Poor kid lost half a month wages... Many thanks in advance

What kind of holiday? e.g Package holiday, self catering accommodation?
What was the payment for- deposit, share of accommodation, food ?0 -
It would be worthwhile reading up on TUI's terms and conditions to determine what is the worst case scenario in respect of your daughter being removed from the booking.I hope you get an acceptable resolution.

It may be that your daughter owes more money rather than getting any back, although that would be harsh given the circumstance1

Interesting perspective.Isn't the person making the booking, aka the lead passenger, responsible for honouring all payments in the final analysis ?TUI won't be interested in the background to the circumstances leading to the young lady being removed from the booking.0

This is the problem with any kind of group booking - if someone cancels, who pays?
Personally, I think this should be a 50/50 split as TUI are unlikely to allow cancellation - but remember, that's 50% of the total cost.
I can't see any other way, their relationship is their business and it was always a risk.0 -
It could well be that the ex boyfriend's family will still have to pay for the complete holiday.photome said:It may be that your daughter owes more money rather than getting any back, although that would be harsh given the circumstance
Personally I'd just walk away with dignity. It's well worth £100 IMO..... and hope they don't ask for any more. I certainly wouldn't be wrangling with the family.1 -
Tough one I think. If TUI won’t allow a cancellation the boyfriend’s mother is going to end up fronting the cost of the ex-gf’s holiday even though she’s not going. If that was the case then I think it’s fair for the mother to keep the £100. If not and she can cancel the place then I think it should be returned.
An awkward scenario.1 -
Thanks all. I was hoping that they didn't get it back as she would be keeping her money. I just don't want to find out someone else is going and my daughter has paid for some of there's .
I have it in writing that she will pay the remainder of the holiday but no money back for my daughter lesson learnt I think. Me personally if it was the other way round I would ask my son for the money and pay her. I did offer it to come back in small installments but fell on deaf ears...
Thanks for all your help.

If the ex-boyfriend get his new girlfriend to go (entirely possible with the holiday being months away) hopefully the mother will get her to pay and refund your daughter.
