Excuse me if this has been answered after 2017 (but couldn’t find any newer threads)
I want to open a fixed ISA and a savings account using the recommended ones on MSE saving site.
I want to know if these are definitely only ‘soft’ credit checks and not going to be ‘hard’ checks as I plan to mortgage next year.

It won't matter either way.1

Savings accounts typically only use soft searches to verify your identity - I've never known a hard search to be undertaken for a savings account. But as above, if your plan is to get a mortgage next year, then a single hard search over a year before will not matter, since most hard searches drop off your files after a year or so anyway.0
