PPI complaint referred to ombudsman

Hi, I need some advice.
I recently heard back from the adjudicator at the FOS and they said my case is being referred onto an ombudsman as the business doesn’t agree with their decision. My questions are:

1. How long can this process take?
2. What are my chances of winning? 

Each time the adjudicator has asked for evidence or a reply, they are always a bit slow to reply. 

Any adivce would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

    There are not many ombudsman.  Often you are looking at 12-36 months.

    2. What are my chances of winning? 
    Without knowing your complaint reasons and the reasons why the firm is disagreeing with the adjudicator, its difficult to say.  It is unusual for a firm to appeal a PPI decision as they are relatively simple cases to adjudicate on.   It is normally the more complicated cases where ombudsman gets involved.       So, very simply, you would expect an adjudicator decision on a PPI case to not be overturned.   That said, we heard of a case where an adjudicator was biased and automatically upholding complaints against a certain firm whether there was merit or not.   That firm won its ombudsman referrals.     The ombudsman overturn around 1-2 in 10 cases overall but it will vary with different business areas.

    It was a PPI case against a car dealership (it was a dealership now closed but part of a larger group), the adjudicator said they did misell the insurance. However the dealership doesn’t agree. I’ve not seen a copy of their correspondence. I bought the car when I was 24 (with full time employment and savings),I suppose I was young and naive. How do you know an adjudicator is biased?

    Son Of was only detailing an (unlikely in your case) example of why an adjudicator's decision was over-ridden by an Ombudsman. You really don't have to be concerned about bias on behalf of the adjudicator...
