When we have to claim we are glad it is there.
How much money have you paid for car insurance or house insurance over the years without claiming that amount back?
Each of us make our own decision on what risk we are willing to take.
Sadly some pet owners can't make the financal choice and there is not doubt that the cost in UK of vet cost is more than that of some other countries...have been told several times about how reasonable it is in France and Spain.

My late cat ended up costing 3,500 just for diagnostics (specialist Vet), diagnosis terminal, decided against the treatment as it would have been too much for her with not good enough odds of working. As it happened she needed to be PTS less that a week after diagnosis so it was probably too late to start chemotherapy, even if it didn't need to be delayed. Due to treatment for a bladder infection with a culture proven anti-biotic... I like to think as that had cleared up before her death (over a week of treatment & stopped using litter box so often) she was maybe a little more comfortable despite the cancer progressing.
I've posted this many times on MSE, because I see many times owners saying they wouldn't put their pet through tough treatment, well that is not the only way you can end up with a large bill.
Happily I was insured with Pet Plan who paid out the £3000 claim just as quick as the £30 ones. Both Vets also claimed direct so I had little to do. I had no money worries and no forms to keep filling in, I could focus on Lily absolutely.
