council tax single person discount living in two properties

Me and my wife bought a new house but have not been able to sell the current one yet. both properties are within the same borough. The new house is closer to where I work, while the old house is closer to where my wife works.
We are not comfortable to leave any property unoccupied, so I have changed all my address (e.g. bank) to the new address, and plan to move into the new property with limited furniture (only the basic one that allows me to sleep).
Can we each claim single person discount under this circumstances? i.e.: I live in the new property, while my wife lives in old property. Until the old one is sold.
Thanks.

just to add, there are questions on the form,
1) one for the person who doesn't leave the old property:
"Is this person married, cohabiting or in a civil partnership with a liable person within the dwelling?"
Shall I answer "No", because I am NOT within the dwelling although we are married.
2) one for the person who is moving into the new property:
"Are you married, cohabiting or in a civil partnership with another person within the dwelling"
Shall I answer "No" for the same reason?
I am trying to find a legitimate way to avoid paying two portion of full council tax because without selling the old house we are struggling a bit.
