MBNA wrongly recorded credit limit exceeded/balance increase on credit file...

Hi all

I had a credit card with MBNA which I paid off in full in November 2019.  During the time I had this I always made payments on time and never exceeded the credit limit.

On December 23rd I got alerts from Credit Karma to advise there had been some changes to my credit file.  On checking I found that MBNA had logged 2 notices that the credit limit had been exceeded and 1 notice advising that there had been a substantial balance increase; all of these are incorrect as the account was closed and settled in full.

I rang MBNA to complain and asked that they contact credit reference agencies to correct this mistake which they accepted.  They offered me £75 compensation which I conditionally accepted on the understanding that they would rectify the mistakes.

I have checked my now  updated credit record however these 3 errors are still showing on it.

Shall I complain again to MBNA or just go direct to the FCA (or is there something else I should do?)

Thanks in advance

Jon

Hi Jon and welcome to the forum :)

If it were me, I would make a complaint again in writing so that I had a paper-trail.  If MBNA did not offer a satisfactory resolution, and the reporting errors were not subsequently corrected, then I would escalate the complaint to the ICO.

Edit:  If it were me, I would be checking my credit files with all three CRAs, to confirm how MBNA have recorded MBNA account conduct on each of the files.

  • The FCA don't take customer complaints. If you get nowhere with MBNA, then the ICO or FOS would be your next step.
  • Thanks for the info folks.
