Take it somewhere else then, or do it yourself for nothing...Likely they want to bill you £10 a litre for the fleet oil they pay less than £1 a litre for.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

As above, it's part of their business model. Find a garage that allows you to supply your own oil.0

If you don't want to get too dirty - get a suction pump and do it yourself.
Make sure to change the filter and take the old oil to the council tip to dispose of properly.

Other pumps are available.

Ask one of the Freds to come around and give you a tutorial on how to do it yourself. They say a novice can do it blindfolded1

Try a smaller independent, you'll still pay the labour and other minor fees (oil disposal) .

My mechanic told me that years ago.True, but likely the first garage charge the same for the fleet oil as the OP would pay for the special oil that he wants, so he might as well spend his money on the nice label as increase the profit margin of the garage. We don't know what the car is, it might need a catalyst poisoning zinc anti wear additive for the tappets if it is a classic (old) car.(Then they'd just use the diesel fleet oil
