HI all!! As some of you may have gathered I have been making great in-roads into my debts recently, and am on track with everything, having increased my income and sold the property that was a big thorn in my side. So imagine my shoch when I got in today to find a demand from a Co. I know nothing about, for an amount that does not seem the slightest bit familiar! The letter is from Mortimer Clarke Solicitors, and apparently relates to a Company called MCE Portfolio. The anount is £8947.75 (!!!) and I have no knowledge of any of it!!
Can anyone shed any light on what I should do, and/ or who these people might be? I am stressing to death over it, and wonder what it is all about. I can't help feeling that it is connected to my lying cheating ex partner who threatened to 'ruin me financially' when we split.

Hi,Joe
Firstly,, DO NOT contact the company, or acknowledge the debit in any way ,
Tommorrow contact National Debit line..http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/.. For advice ..
Try not to worry, tonight ( easier said than done ).. Let NDB help and advise you ..
Best of luck:D

yes. national debt line are really good (and a charity so free
)
telephone 0808 808 4000
they will help you work out whether you really owe anything (it doesn't sound as if they have any proof from the letter) and dispute it if you dont.0 -

Sorry - i never saw this post yesterday.
If you don't recognise the debt, just write to them stating "I acknowledge no debt to you or your clients" and then the rest of the letter requesting a copy of the Consumer Credit Agreement. Letters are linked in this post.

Hopefully receiving a valid copy of the CCA will explain it. Did you have many joint accounts? I'd also check your credit history at experian (free) to see if anything is showing up there.
Please note - when sending a letter to a DCA or their "solicitors" do not put your signature on the letter.After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
