Gym Membership - Mis-sold?

Options
Hi, not sure if I'm in the right place but here goes.
My Son and Daughter were both members of a DW gym in Cardiff on a monthly rolling membership which meant they could cancel at any time.
Due to moving for Uni they stopped that membership and applied for a new one at another gym closer to Uni. The lady they spoke to said they would have the same membership as before, but it appears when they tried to cancel the membership 2 months in they were told they had signed a 12 month contract and would have to pay the full 12 months.
The woman who "sold" them the membership now no longer works there, I know it's a long shot but is there any case that we could quote to get this overturned?
DW are adamant that they sent out a T&C email with 10 days cancellation period.
Thanks
Dave

It depends what the actual contract they signed said. How long had they been members at the original gym? Is it possible that they had been in a 12 month contract that automatically went to monthly rolling after a year so when they asked for the same in the new gym that is what they were given?

If they were already regular gym goers why would they both want to cancel this membership so soon anyway?

No, the original membership was a rolling one - they weren't sure how long they would use it for. Once they got to Uni, they realised they could use the free on-site gym, so wanted to cancel the DW one.
Had they known the DW one was for 12 months they wouldn't have agreed to it - but they are not worldly wise so took what the Gym rep said at face value.

    Lesson learnt - expensive one!
