I contacted HMRC in 2013 as I believed I was liable for the charge and I didn’t know what to do. I was advised that information would be taken from my employer and I didn’t need to do anything. I therefore believed anything being clawed back was being taken at source from my pay. Like others, I then received a letter to inform that I should have been completing a self assessment for the last six years! And that I owe thousands. I am submitting a complaint as I hold HMRC responsible for this, has anyone else had a similar experience that they knew of the charge but received poor advice? Many thanks

What did you do when no additional deductions were made?

You didn't look at a single payslip since 2013 to see what deductions were being made?1
