Cancel holiday

I need to cancel my holiday Tuesday as my father is ill. It’s a package holiday paid for by credit card deposit and bacs balance paid December. How can I get my money back?

  • Travel insurance would be the obvious first step.

This can only be an insurance claim, the operator will charge 100% cancellation charges at this stage, you do have insurance don't you and if your father was ill at the time you took out the policy I assume you notified the insurers? The method of payment is not relevant as no one has broken the contract so there is no claim against your credit card.
  • A travel insurance claim is your only option.
You should be covered as long as your father's illness is not a pre-existing condition which you failed to declare when you took out your insurance

Is your father due to be travelling with you, or are you looking to cancel because he is seriously ill?

You can't get your money back, as it's not your money - you've paid for a service that they're willing to provide. It's not their fault you can't go.

Your only option is some form of insurance, but if you've not taken any out you're unfortunately pretty stuffed. A credit card won't help unless you have some kind of insurance add-on for travel (Section 75 etc won't cover you, as the holiday company have done nothing wrong).

Fingers crossed you have insurance to refund you. :)

Maybe insurance with a packaged bank account?
