American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Card - Retentions

Has anyone ever managed to get a retention deal with Amex? I'm considering moving up through the Amex tree, and my next card will be the Gold and then finally the BA Black card. However, I have read online people say that they've dealt with retentions through American Express, and people have had pretty sweet deals - for example, getting the joining bonus again (33,000 SPG for £1,000/3 months). 

Has anyone managed to get anything like this?

First time I've heard of someone getting the sign up bonus as a retention offer, though I have heard reports of people being offered lesser spend targets on the Avios and MR cards. Can anybody personally confirm they've had this as an offer? For the SPG card the standard offer is an extra point per £1 of spend for a fixed period of time - 3 or 6 months.

My SPG card will be going in the bin in a couple of weeks when it loses all of its points collecting value for me!

Would be good if could get a confirmation off someone. I found a post online about all Amex retention offers for each card, however it was an American forum so I can’t give it any credibility.

A bit disappointed about the changes coming in for the SPG card, I believe it offers the best value for Avios collecting.
