How soon can I transfer to a new card?

Hi guys.
I recently undertook a balance transfer from an MBNA to capital one as my interest free period was due to expire.
Transfer has gone ok and the mbna card is cleared. However I've just had my first bill through and the minimum I've got to pay has taken me aback somewhat. I've read through my paperwork and apparently its 2% of the balance. How soon realistically can I transfer to a new 0% card as the monthly amount is about twice what I was expecting

You can make an application for another BT card any time you like.  It just looks bad if there have been multiple applications over a short period.  Do you have a plan to actually pay off the debt, or are you only in a position to make minimum contractual payments until the promotion expires?

  • My aim was to see what the minimum payment was and then add another 10-15 pouns on top of the minimum.
My credit score is 900 plus on Experian I'd that helps (I know it's not what all the credit companies use)
  • It's not what any of them use.

You may as well try for another card now. If declined, leave it a couple of months.

  • Any decent existing customer offers on your clear MBNA card?

It's not uncommon for the minimum payment on cards to be 2-2.25% of the balance, (plus charges) .

If you're looking for a card which allows minimum payments of 1% then, just off the top of my head, look at Tesco bank, Virgin Money, Santander, Lloyds/HBOS or Natwest, there may be others.
