Hi All
This might be a strange one or not.
After making myself debt free in 2013 I signed up to keep an eye on credit information currently (Credit Karma) on 5th February 2020 an alert came for them to say that someone had registered something against my name. So I logged onto Credit Karma to see what to find out that a company NewDay Ltd had registered a default notice against me for £0 for missing 4 payments so I dug a bit deeper to see that they had record of an account going back to February 2013 and showing no missed payments, which if I'm honest it should as I had no idea who NewDay Ltd was, nor had i taken out any sort of financial agreement with them.
So after a bit more digging i got a phone number for NewDay Ltd and rang them. after about 10 minutes they still could not find me on their system. "how long have you been at your current address they asked" "since October 2013" i replied (silence) "can I have you previous address?" so to cut a long story a little shorter we go back to an address that i moved out of in September 2009! and they find me Yes I had a Comet Card from 2005 well actually I took it out in 1996 but never mind.
Ok right I say this was paid off in 2012 the operator back then said there would be a little bit of interest to go on but it's under the £5 minimum payment so I arranged to have account closed when the last payment was made and left it
Skip forward to February 2013 NewDay Ltd purchase all old Comet Card accounts from Santander and for some reason reopen mine! (but they are not issuing cards to these accounts) so from February 2013 to December 2019 there a a little green tick against the account to say all is good then on 29th January 2020 they register a default to say 4 missed payments!!
So after a lot of swearing and shouting at them (I know not going to help) (but it felt like he was stalling to get out of talking to me) I say "tell you what, you say its £4.36 that i owe and we are within 14 days of the default being registered, I pay you the £4.36 right now and you remove the default" " no sorry sir we can't do that you will have to make a compliant" " So your refusing my payment to fully clear the debt? (silence) "I've registered your compliant with our complains department sir. Someone will be in contact within 48 hours" "is there anything else i can help you with today?" A week on heard nothing but I'm not surprised

Make the payment and argue the default later.
