Paypal Newly Linked To Bank Account Payment Not Taken

4 replies 51 views
Sorry for the long title, trying to get to speak to anyone at Paypal is a nightmare for just a simple question. I just get someone will be with you in a few hours!

So Tuesday 11th I decided to finally link my bank account to my Paypal, I had been using my debit card before.  So went through all the stages codes etc and they deposited the 1p into my account which they will take later.
So, I had some money in my Paypal and decided to buy something and use this as part payment not from eBay
As of today Paypay has not taken or ring-fenced any money even though the item shows as cleared on Paypay and it actually arrived with me today.
Usually, when I pay via Paypal the money is ring-fenced in my bank account but not this time.
So finally my question how long does it actually take for Paypal to collect the money from my bank which is Santander?
Should I be worried?

My bank is not Santander but my PayPal payments frequently take 3-5 working days to show up but sometimes eBay purchases take longer (I have no idea why). I have to match the payments between my bank statement and PayPal summary based on the amounts rather than dates, which can be difficult when buying internationally in different currencies!

My eBay fees are taken from PayPal and it often takes several days for the payment to leave my Smile account.

It appears you've linked your bank account, using a sort code and account number, to your PayPal account; whereas previously you had your debt card (16 digit) number linked to it.

If that's the case, the payment will usually be taken from your bank account after seven to ten days.

You should be able to see the payment instruction set up in the direct debit section of Santander's online banking.

Thank you, I have now found it in my direct debits but it was JML or something and then Paypal.
I was in a real panic thinking why have they not taken the money, now it does show no transaction beside Paypay yet.  I was just expecting it to work as it used it and ring-fenced the money straight away and then take it so many days later.  I like to be very on top of what comes in and goes out of my account in case of a nasty surprise.

Thank you, everyone else,  now I know it can take so many business days for the money to actually come out and not immediately.
