I'm sure others know better than me about what is shown and when, but close together applications have often been recommended on here. When someone applies for a BT card for instance, and doesn't get a big enough limit they'd usually be advised to keep the card and apply again, as soon as possible.
My only experience of multiple applications was an experiment with stoozing two years ago, where I withdrew over £30k with two credit cards and a loan in a few days. Of course real time monitoring may have improved since then.

@SlovakianGuy The Tesco search would show for your first application (accepted or rejected). Subsequent applications within 6 months should then be auto-declined, without searching you again.

I agree with @Nebulous2 approach - when my adverse drops off my plan is to apply for lots at once - as I'll have a perfect credit file and it'll be my relatively low income limiting my chances of getting high limits, so if I can get as many to approve (without knowing what the others have given me), I could get a nice stooze pot built.  Obviously if you applied for say Natwest and RBS on the same day, they should pick up (and be aware of) the limit that the other one has given you - so it would be multiple apps with multiple banking groups if you really wanted to push the boundaries!

The only real issue then being that fraud checks could well kick in (or just declined due to number of searches). In theory, the cards could well chop limits back down (even after approval) once they see I've been on a little application spree, but I doubt it in practice.
