    Sound fair.
    Maybe when you go house hunting you can now make sure you don't buy a garage with asbestos roof/wall panels.
    You have spoken to Shelter ! The housing charity ( please check how many homeless people they provide Shelter for ?) 
    Your landlord is having the roof replaced with HSE approved contractors and is being a good landlord.
    If you decide to make a claim for WHAT ?
    You should have contents insurance for your contents ( Do you have Insurance )
    Trying to sue the Landlord or Landlords insurance company is a great way to  Impress the landlord I'm sure

    The landlord hasn’t deliberately damaged your property. If any of your contents are unusable due to an insurable risk, the. Make a claim on your contents insurance.

    The landlord can claim / may be able to claim on his buildings insurance for storm damage, but won't be able to claim for your possessions as they would be covered under your own personal contents insurance. 

    If you don't have insurance then you would need to try a claim through small claims court. I think it's pretty harsh though, it's not the landlords fault if you didn't take out insurance.  
    It's no different to there being a fire in the property, the landlord wouldn't be expected to replace all your clothes. 

    If you go to small claims for compensation I wouldn't be surprised to see a s21 following not long after.  I'd also be surprised if its upheld as a garage isn't primarily designed for storage (regardless of shelving). And the vast majority of garages from pre 1990's have an asbestos roof so it's not as if the landlord has exposed you to an unacceptable risk on purpose

    Be careful claiming through the court if you dont have insurance. If your tenancy says you should have contents insurance (although not enforceable) the landlord could use it as part of their defence.

    Let's answer the most important question first. Do you have contents insurance which covers the stuff in the shed. You do have contents insurance right?
