MOT Cost - Does This Seem High?

My car just failed its MOT and I've been quoted £450 to get it fixed (this price doesn't include a service). It failed on:
1. Front tyre
2. Front driver's side track rod end
3. Front driver's side lower suspension arm
4. Offside rear metal brake pipe corroded through
Is £450 a fair price for this work? Or should I look elsewhere for the repairs?

Blimey, that's probably close to what the car is worth.... :o
A breakdown of the cost would help, you shouldn't really be paying more than £50-£70 for tyre, depending on size.
Garages mark up tyres to horrible levels.

Ha, you’re not wrong! Love this little car though and it’s still under 100,000 miles... I’d like to keep it around a bit longer if possible.

Thanks, will ask for a cost breakdown.

Sounds  high, but depending on what work is needed for the brake pipe, such as lowering fuel tank to access. The rest - £150-£200?
  • 1. Front tyre = £40
    2. Front driver's side track rod end = £50
    3. Front driver's side lower suspension arm = £50
    4. Offside rear metal brake pipe corroded through = £80

So £450, maybe £250 is acceptable?

Why hasn't someone posted you should have  noticed the tyre?

Because most folk on here are sensible and realise when driving a banger you pop it in for its MOT warts and all and then decide whether to spend the money on repairs.

How does someone decide that a 2007 car needing a few simple cheap repairs is a 'banger'? Unbelievable.
