I have committed to be a no gas house with Solar-panels and Air Source Heat Pump. Getting my Gas Meter removed is necessary to make space for my new pressurised water tank. However getting the meter removed is proving less than easy. Tonik continue to bill be for a standing charge 3 months after ending my supply with them. They say even if they remove the meter and the pipe is capped, I have to continue paying a standing charge as long as the gas pipes come into my home. Removing the whole gas pipe to the road is a huge job. Any ideas? Can i just move my supply to a supplier who doesn't charge a standing charge? Beats me why anyone would want to take on a gas supply for a house which isn't intending to use gas :-). Octopus is my new electric supplier and they don't do a nil rated gas supply.

It looks like you need to get your local gas distribution company in to permanently remove the supply. They will charge for that.In my area, that would be Southern Gas Networks, but yours could be somebody else.https://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.html#If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2 -

Or google no standing charges?
Personally I would keep the gas as a back up.

You'll find the supposedly Ethical Billing Company are a bit unethical. You''ll have a to pay more, a minimum of £104 per year even if you use no gas whatsoever, even though they claim there's zero standing charge. Also have a look at their recent TrustPilot reviews which are pretty grim.0

If all you are going to do is post defamatory comments, at least try and get a slither of truth into them.
Ebico created it's name because it was going to call itself the Equitable Billing Company.
They didn't, because over 20 years ago, just when they were about to launch, events in the financial markets gave "Equitable" a bad name, so they went with just Ebico
Anyway,equitableadjective1. fair and impartial. What can be more fair and impartial than spelling out exactly what you will get?Ebico Zero Green Fixed v4.
- ZERO Standing charge
- 12 Months fixed price
- Green energy plan
- No exit fees or tie-ins
- Minimum annual bill value provisions apply,
So I took a look at Trustpilot as you invited me to do, and what did I find?
Not "pretty grim" at all, but "Great"!!!
In contrast, I thought I would check out MSE to see how that fared, but it was not quite so glowing
not least, it would seem from the comments posted, due in part because of the content posted by some MSE forum users.

Ebico has always promoted itself as an ethical company:-"Ebico has successfully positioned itself in the British home electricity and gas market as an energy company driven by an ethical principle. Unlike ‘green’ ethical suppliers, Ebico’s unique focus is on tackling fuel poverty."It's a bit semantic anyway because equitable and ethical are synonyms.I invited you to look at recent Trustpilot results, which are mostly one star and very critical. You should have scrolled down !
- IMHO it's unethical to promote a tariff with ZERO Standing charge when it can't cost less than £104 per year. How can it be compatible with Standard Licence Condition 22A, which says that
all charges for supply activities must be contained in the unit rate or
the standing charge?

Total crap about still having to pay a standing charge for the service being left in place.
Get your supplier to remove your gas meter, if no gas meter is reinstated within 12 months, the transporter to obliged to remove the service to prevent you from stealing gas.1 -
Gas suppliers often rent meters from meter asset managers (MAMs). Distribution companies own the pipe that supplies the meter. If you want the meter removing, you must deal with your gas supplier who will deal with their MAM. That should stop the standing charge. Once the meter is removed this sets a timer with the network (Cadent?). After a year or so of having no meter on the end of the pipe they will contact you citing the GSMR Regs and will seek to disconnect and/or isolate your service. If its old steel they will dig in the road and cut it off. If its plastic and there is an isolation valve outside, they will just isolate and label it.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..1
