Stamp duty refund question
Hi
I have tried to find an answer to the below scenario but I cant for the life of me get a straight answer,
I bought a terraced house in 2014 which I lived in as my main residence. In 2018 I bought a semi detached house with my fiance. I chose to keep the terrached house and converted it to a buy to let. Because of this I paid the higher rate of stamp duty
We have recently seperated and are selling the semi detached house and I will be moving back into the terraced house which will be main only residence and property owned.
Does anybody know if I am able to apply for a refund of the higher rate of stamp duty that I paid?
Many thanks

No. You could if you kept the semi and sold the terraced (within 3 years (assuming we're talking about SDLT rather than LBTT or LTT) of your purchase of the semi). Doesn't work the other way round.1
