What's the difference between esa and pip?

How important is supporting information? I sent a letter from my psychiatrist

Thirdly, are pip times just as slow as esa? I called the DWP today and they've received my pip 2 form and supporting information

Thanks

They are both totally different benefits, with different criteria. Evidence for both to prove how your conditions affect you is important because none of them are awarded based on any diagnosis.

There's no timescales for any decision. Backlogs are just part of the reason a decision can be delayed.
  • I agree that supporting evidence is a big help, however my OH was transfered from DLA to PIP with no evidence and had a review with no evidence and got an award on both occasions.

ESA is a benefit for people who have health problems or disabilities that limit their ability to work.
PIP is a benefit for people who have health problems or disabilities that limit their ability to look after themselves and/or manage normal everyday activities - it is not work related.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

PIP started in November. They received just before christmas (massive delay at their end) as sent back in November. Appointment for home visit last week, letter received for this mid Jan. Advised up to 6 weeks for result.

Despite the timescales they tell you, there's no timescale for anything. All areas are different. Some wait just a few weeks, while other wait several months.

I am aware of people who claimed PIP in October who had not heard anything about assessment dates in late January (not sure if they have now).

Thanks guys so pip is your day to day abilities, and esa is ability to work
I really wish they could have a faster turn around. Waiting for months with severe anxiety is horrible
