BT to hit many broadband, landline and mobile customers with mid-contract price rises next month

Presume you also will never go with the other ISPs that raise prices .

I phoned BT about the price increases a couple of months back and the person I spoke with gave me completely wrong information.

The CPI increase is nothing that BT customers should be surprised about ... it's been clearly notified in the T&Cs of BT broadband contracts for quite some time now. (I've been with BT for a few years and the CPI increase has been clear in each of my contract renewal T&Cs).
If you want to avoid "mid-contract" increases, go with a provider who guarantees there won't be any. (e.g. TalkTalk). Be aware though that this only applies for the broadband (and maybe landline) part of the contract - any addons you have (e.g. Anytime Calls, Speed Boost, etc.) are not covered by the No Price Rise guarantee.0 -
Just looked over my contract with BT, it says that terms or prices or products might change at any time while you're in contract. Says nothing about whether I can make similar changes to the contract or if the contract can be cancelled early by either party if they're unhappy with the changes.0

Hi Simple_Ideas
I have just had a call from BT following my complaint and the agent was adamant that I can not cancel my contract without penalty because of the CPI price rise. I quoted the 'Ending the Service' information you have posted but the agent needed to know where I got this information.
Do you know where you got this information? Thanks.0 -
Two price increase methods .The old one where price increase not notified on new Contract . Ofcom allowed you to get out of that contract .Thats the OFCOM ruleSecond one is the newer / current one notified from August 2018 .We're changing the way we increase our prices. From 11 January 2019, if you sign up to a new contract for a landline (including call charges, features and plans), broadband or mobile, the monthly price will increase every year from March 2020. That increase is based on the Consumer Price Index rate of inflation which is published in January of each year.Ofcom say you have no get out as you agreed on starting contract .It depends upon your last contract start date .

They are archived on the BT - I can't post links but if you google BT Terms and Conditions the first link will be something ending in legal stuff which is the current contracts and clearly states from January 2019. The 2nd link that comes up in google ends post3rdjuly2016 and are the ones i have in my contract with BT.Bob46 said:Hi Simple_Ideas

Yep it shouldn't be a surprise, but its always amazing the number of people who either aren't aware, think it won't affect them, or will argue the point just to try and save themselves some cash....DoaM said:The CPI increase is nothing that BT customers should be surprised about ... it's been clearly notified in the T&Cs of BT broadband contracts for quite some time now. I renewed with them knowing they've altered their terms to stop people leaving penalty free due to a price-rise, and it just means that although I'm happy with my current deal, when I get to the end of my contract, I'll look more favourably at moving elsewhere.2 -
Likewise i factored in probable 2% price rise on new contract May last year .
