02 - Lowell - Defaulted account on TransUnion?

  • I can`t see your problem really, paying the debt will not remove the default, nothing will, nothing except time.

Really being told "not to worry about it" was asking for trouble in my experience, Lowell now own this massive debt of yours, if there not bothering you, I would not bother them, they probably deem it to be not worth their time trying to recover it, in two years time the default will be gone, and you can carry on as normal.

I`m not trying to make light of this, but i`d just forget about it and get on with your life if i were you.
I just want to avoid anything worse if possible. If I paid the default will be gone in 2 years anyway right?
Also, I can't stand the idea of having a debt, I just can't, so paying it would make me feel much better.
If I paid on the phone, would it be the end of it? Or shall I wait for any confirmation in writing or something?

Pay it to Lowell, it will be marked on your file as satisfied and it will drop off in 2 yrs. Once paid you will hear nothing more from Lowell.

We've just found a very similar thing on my wifes credit file. Looked at it a few days ago and there is now a default marker on her file in the telecoms section from Lowell. We have no idea what this relates to as she has always kept up to date with any payments. We've had no communication from Lowell- no letters, no emails, no calls. Can we get this removed  from her credit file?
You can get it removed if it has been added incorrectly. First step is to contact Lowell and find out what the alleged debt relates to. Once you have that info you will know if the debt is hers or not. If it isn't her debt then you can ask whoever added the default to remove it.

If Lowell have not written to you, you will not have a reference number, without a reference number, Lowell will not be able  to trace the account, but good luck to you anyway.

  • Ok I called them, and sorted the balance in 3 minutes. It was from O2 as I thought. I tried to ask if they could remove the default, they said no. Fair enough, TransUnion will be updated in 30 to 50 days.
At least now I feel better, I hate having balances to pay.
They just needed my name to find the account.
    Thanks for your help guys
  • Sorry to hijack this thread. I have searched for hours and can’t find an answer.

I am currently paying off an old debt with Lowell and I am now in a position to clear the balance. On checking my Lowell account there is another (much older) debt on the account which does not appear on my credit report.

I want to clear this debt and finally be debt free but if I start making payments against the old debt will this be added to my credit file?

My rating is improving well and I don’t want to knock it back by inadvertently highlighting a very old debt on my file.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The reason its not on your credit file, could be because its over 6 years old, and therefore statute barred.
No, it will not be added to your credit file, but why if its statute barred, would you want to pay it ?
