Wondering if anyone can advise please
Male aged 68 on State Pension currently on DLA mobility going through transition from DLA to Pip
After looking at assesors report it appears he will achieve Mid Rate Care and Low Mobility ( but obviously not guarenteed until final decision from DWP).
Wife of above age 65 but will not receive State Pension for another 6 months is on Contribution based ESA plus DLA Mobility.
Wife is expecting to be transfered from DLA to PIP in the near future, if she receives some care element would any disability premium be payable ?
They have a daughter who cares for them but does not live with them, she claims UC from own home she does not claim carers allowence or carers element of UC.
Would they be entitled to any disability premium if their daughter moved in with them and claimed carers allowence for one of them or would they be better of if the daughter stayed in her own home while caring for them ?

There's no such award for PIP as mid rate care and low rate mobility. It's either standard or Enhanced. If the wife receives a daily living award of PIP, no one claims carers allowance or the carers element of UC for looking after them and this have no one over the age of 18 living with them (unless that person claims a qualifying benefit such as PIP daily living or DLA mid/high rate care) then they will be entitled to the Severe disability premium, couples rate, which is £131.70 per week. They will need to claim pension credit as a couple to receive this.

Adding to poppy’s post. Pension Credit will only be available once wife reaches pension age.
Pension Credit is means tested so entitlement will depend on their other income and savings.
if they both have a qualifying benefit and daughter were to claim Carer’s Allowance or UC carer element they would still be entitled to the single rate of Severe Disability Addition.
if daughter were to live with them they would not be entitled to any Severe Disability Addition (unless daughter also gets a qualifying disability benefit).
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
Sorry for the mistake It would be Standard for both Care and Mobility.poppy12345 said:Jerseygirl55 said:Wondering if anyone can advise please

That's correct.

Yes, but note that because the Severe Disability Addition, if applicable, would increase their maximum Pension Credit entitlement it would make it easier for them to qualify. If there is Pension Credit payable this impacts on Housing Benefit and a Council Tax Reduction entitlement too.Jerseygirl55 said:So they would need to qualify for Pension Credit to claim a disability premium ?
