Damaged caused by courier

2 weeks ago I had a fridge freezer and dishwasher delivered to my property.  When they delivered the appliances the couriers dragged it on my wooden floor which has cause a very deep scratch in 2 locations.  As well as the damage to the floor the goods were damaged and I refused to accept delivery.
I am pursuing this with the retailer with regards to the damage who is not very responsive and they have has ask me to talk to the courier company.  They also haven't responded when the replacement appliance will be delivered (bearing in mind I waited 2 months for these appliance to be delivered in the first place).  I am starting to get fed up and wish to get a refund to the appliances and purchase it else where.
How long do I have to give them to organise and get the new appliance delivered?  how much compensation should I get for the damaged floor?

  • Did you buy them online?  If so, you should be able to reject them.

When it comes to compensation, you are entitled to your actual losses.  The retailer may reasonably ask you to get quotes to have the floor repaired or the sections replaced, and should pay out an amount accordingly.  You're not entitled to an entirely new kitchen floor of course, and they can make a deduction to take age and condition into consideration.

Cancelling the order now may make them less inclined to help on the flooring.  I think you have to weigh up the situation. Maybe use cancellation as a threat to expedite the flooring matter?
