packaged cruise but not using the flight ?

I have a friend that lives in Palma Majorca  - and we wanted to book a cruise that goes from there  - i would be coming from the UK   , meeting my friend   in Palma   then we would do the cruise together i would then fly home   , HOWEVER  it seems we can book  the elements  separate  but be charged as solo passengers -  SO i was wondering  could i book  for  2 people   saving    near on £1000  to go from the uk  but  only  i would show at the airport   but we would both show for the cruise   do you think it would be ok ?  - (have tried asking   cruise  company   but they seem to think   we would  loose the cruise as a no show at the airport - even though i would be  showing -    any one have any thoughts on this ?

If the cruise company thinks you could lose the whole thing (for one of the travellers) as a no-show I would be more inclined to take their advice than that of anybody here.  There is no reason to think that you would lose anything, and to be fair, assuming you are sharing a cabin there would seem to be no benefit to the cruise company in refusing boarding.  Packages can be strange in the way they work.
  • Can't you book for two people cruise only, without flights? Then you could book your own flights separately and maybe spend a night each side with your friend if you think there might be an issue with timing.

Going by the OP's explanation "have tried asking cruise company but they seem to think we would  loose the cruise" I would want to speak with somebody there able to make a more authorative response.
Sounds as if whoever she spoke to wasn't that person ?
Knowing the cruise line and the airline would help - Marella/TUI perhaps ?

appoligies for not replying on this  post   earlier  - i did need go back to the company  who are  tui/ marrella  - and they confirmed  that  it would seem  that  YES  the cruise would be lost  for my friend  who resides in Palma  as  a no show at the Airport in the uk would  invalidate the cruise   - so  i have tried to see if i can get flights   for the  day of  the cruise and fly in independently  then take a cruise only  deal   - BUT thank you all for your responces

If this is Marella they certainly do cruise only and flights to Palma are ten a penny. Best to go the day before in case of delays.

DO NOT go on the day of the cruise, go before.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
