Am I doing something wrong?

Hi all
I've got a default on my credit file for something that I am paying back. Despite the fact that I am making payments to it and have been doing so for quite a bit
(over 12 months) the only part that is showing that I am paying money to it is where it shows you the balance going down. I know that defaults can stay with you for 6 years but surely if you are making payments something would show that payments are up to date? I'm probably showing my complete ignorance as to how this works here but part of me feels like it's being kept like that because they want me to pay more if that makes any sense. Thanks in advance for any help.

No. The defaults are monthly status updates. Once you've defaulted, you can't undefault. The account will drop off your files 6 years from the initial default.
It's not because they want you to pay more, even if that was somehow a thing.0 -
Ah ok, it's just annoying as it makes it look like I'm not paying it back when I am. It was the joys of being between jobs that screwed it up, missed a few payments and then reduced what they wanted me to pay them so that I was at least paying something rather than nothing. That's why I was wondering about the up to date payments not showing if that was down to me not paying what they would like despite it being agreed with them that I would be paying a lesser amount.0

Lenders can see you're paying it back because of the declining balance.0
