Sharp LC 32WDIE; Serial 705933657
My TV started displaying coloured virtical lines across the entire
screen. Searching the internet I found suggestions to tap the rear of
the TV,and this fixed the problem. For a while. Over the next week, the
problem returned, and each time needed a harder and more repeated
tapping/banging, till eventually nothing removed the coloured lines.
More searching suggested the T Con would be the problem and may need
replacing. I opened the rear and that's as far as I've got. Not even
sure how to identify the T Con...
I hate throwing things away if they can be fixed so any suggestions for what can be done (short of replacing the TV) welcome!

There seems to be lots of help on Google & YouTube.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

As I intimated, I have searched using both (well, duckduckgo - never use google!).But haven't found anywhere that can help identify the T-con within a Sharp LC 32WDIE - hence attaching a photo in hope someone who knows what the innards look like can help....

I've repaired a couple of TVs and don't know what a T-Con is. I can only guess T-Connector, meaning, literally, some piece of ribbon connector, circuit board or cable, shaped like a T. Have a look around the TV, disconnect and reconnect anything you can. Look for leaking capacitors is a big general piece of advice too.

T-Con will be hidden under the small metal panel at the bottom centre. But from your described symptoms it sounds rather more like the ribbons feeding the display itself and would necessitate a complete new display (cost more than a new TV even if you can get one).

Some tcon boards sit in the edge of the frame. I could be worth while to remove each cable from the connector, and then re-insert it making a fresh new connection before purchasing a new board. Dont break the plastic locking mechanisms though.1

You could check if there are any repair cafes in your area where volunteers will try to repair electrical equipment for free or for a voluntary donation towards hiring the venue..
I recently took a laptop to one of these events and got it working within an hour.
