I live in Birmingham and according to the Aldi website there are 19 Aldi stores within an 8 mile radius of my home postcode.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

When I’m at the back of the store, do I need to know about the opening and closing of the tills?

No,you don't, but the members of staff who are working in the store do as they will have to go and man those tills due to an increase in customers waiting to be served.
Best headline ever on local paper??

The staff have Bluetooth headsets for communication.

I'm a bit confused about this post (I don't know if it's tongue-in-cheek or not).
Surely you only need to know what is happening at the tills when you're getting ready to go to the tills to pay...

Exactly, it’s a shame there aren’t local speakers at the tills to inform those at the tills about till opening and closing, instead of blasting the whole store with this information.

My hearing is pretty good and I don't find the announcements blasting out.
Does it really irritate you so much?

I find the till announcements heartening. They remind me what excellent customer service they have in Aldi
It shows that they have thought about it, recognised a problem, found a solution and built it into their standard way of operating. Compare with other supermarkets where there is no specific strategy, just a distant voice shouting "Can you come down please?"
  • Don't worry. The food shortages, followed by the riots will be here soon enough, and then we will really have something to complain about
