Insurance with convictions

Hi all, I’d been trying to find car and house & contents insurance after being convicted of a criminal offence last year.
Ordinary person, great job, made a tiny mistake and got royally stitched up!
I searched and searched and finally found Direct Line for my car insurance. Didn’t ask me any questions about criminal convictions and I searched the small print and again nothing. Winner.
House and contents insurance was much harder. In the end I gave Intasure a call and they were amazing! I managed to get much better cover for only £65 more than what Sainsburys quoted me for my renewal (I phoned them telling them about my conviction and they said they wouldn’t renew me).
My sister is with them so I gave her details and we each got a £25 M&S gift card. So actually I was only £40 worse off than my renewal quote (which I wouldn’t have gone with anyway as all renewals are marked higher!)
So I wanted to share this somewhere to help other people in my position.
My conviction becomes spent in November 2021 so I’ve got 1 more annual home insurance to pay then I won’t have to declare, same goes with my car insurance.
Feel free to ask questions or if you know of anywhere else I can post this that will help let me know!

You have not said what the crime was so I maybe hard for people to help you. You do not have to tell the forum what the conviction(s) was for.
I think anybody with a conviction for fraud will find it hard to get house/contents insurance and that is well known.
