Need I notify DWP?

I am in receipt of contributory ESA, in the Support Group. My hubby and I are currently considering voluntary work and, if we go ahead, we would entertain someone in our home one night a week. They would be here aprox 9pm-9am, so everyone would be asleep for most of that time. OH would prep a meal and change the bedding, I would do little other than be there, but it is classified as a joint role in both of our names.
Like many people, I am worried about upsetting the apple-cart by notifying DWP but, of course, don't want to run the risk of problems by not telling them if I need to. Please can I have the opinion of knowledgeable people here?
Thanks in advance.

It's not difficult!

If you are considering any form of work either voluntary or paid, you need to get the OK from DWP before you start. To be honest even DWP's own documents contradict themselves on whether you need to inform them before, or very shortly after starting, but getting permission in advance is the better route.2

As Tellit says getting permission beforehand will make things much easier for you in the long run. Good luck1

Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1
