Replace mixer shower bar and adjust pipework

Hi,
I'm in the Plymouth area and looking to get a bar mixer shower replaced.
The work involves:
Remove 4 wall tiles and a section of drywall behind
Lower the existing hot and cold feed pipes by about a foot
Make good the wall and replace with 4 plain white tiles
Fit a new thermostatic bar mixer using a fast fix kit (unit to be supplied by me)
I've had one quote so far for 'around £180', assuming all parts are supplied by me.
Any comments on what would be a reasonable price for this work would be appreciated.

  • I'd say that's pretty fair. Opening and making good the wall is going to be time-consuming. 3 hours at £60 an hour labour?
When doing a similar job I filled in the tile damage with "mosaic" tiles which looks more like a feature than a repair. You can get them in tile-sized sheets in B&Q, not too expensive if you only need a few.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Thanks for the info.
My preferred contractor, a guy just up the road who fitted our boiler has had a look and reckons we only need to remove two tiles and he can then reach in and work behind the lower two tiles without removing them. Still waiting for a quote though as he is always quite busy.
Had a second quote in today from someone else though. £395. I'd say that's a tad high.
