Landlord option at end of 12 month contract

Hi all, just checking to see if I have got my facts right really.
We have used an agent but for the last 10 months we have registered as a landlord and gone self managing.
We have a good tenant who is about to enter their 3rd year. In the previous years the agent contacted the tenant and offered them another 12 month contract. We are not bothered either way as we are happy for the tenant to stay as long as they want to. I have read up and from what I understand I am not obliged to contact the tenant and offer them another 12 months? Is this correct, and if the tenant asks I am not obliged to offer them another 12 month contract and I understand the tenancy will just go over to a periodic / rolling tenancy?
Just wanted to check if I am correct.....

Have you spoken to the tenant to see what they would like to do? They might prefer another 12 month contract to have some certainty or not be worried and happy to let it go onto a rolling contract to have flexibility. If they don't hear from you at all they may be unsettled and you could lose your good tenant.0

Hi and thanks for the replies. Yes I have read all the info, but it does not say whether or not I need to make the offer of a contract or not. It’s no big deal as I am happy either way. Equally if the tenant does decide to go, (which I think is unlikely), I would look to sell the property rather than re rent it out...0
